So maybe you’re wondering, “How in the world do I even begin to move away from my current way of eating into a more healthful one?”
If that’s what you’re thinking, you’re in the right place!

Here is a very simple basic recipe to make a green smoothie, that takes just 5 easy steps. Start with using just 2 cups of chopped leafy greens to make the smoothie. Some examples of good leafy green vegetables you can try are spinach, baby kale leaves, Bok choy an arugula or rocket.
Then, when you are used to having a green smoothie regularly, you can increase the amount of leafy greens added in gradually to 2 ½ then 3 cups at a time. Remember: the more leafy greens you put in the better in terms of cancer-fighting abilities!
Instructions
- Step 1: Put 2 cups of a green leafy vegetable into a high-speed blender. Roughly chop up the leafy greens first. If there are stems, chop them up more. You can make a test smoothie first to see how well your blender works so you know how much you need to chop up the leafy greens for future smoothies.
- Step 2: Add in a medium apple - chop this up first into small cubes for easier blending.
- Step 3: Put in a small ripe banana (the riper the better) OR half a cup of fresh/frozen blueberries. Feel free to put in a bit more than half a cup of blueberries if you like! You can also use other berries like strawberries if you prefer. Raspberries or black berries will likely give a slight tartness to the smoothie. The banana can be added as cut up fresh or frozen banana chunks.
- Step 4: Add in a cup of a calcium fortified plant-based milk (e.g., soy milk, almond milk, oat milk)
- Step 5: Blend it up until super smooth and creamy (throw in some ice cubes if you like it colder, or if you are not using frozen fruit). Then enjoy!
